The ISES Missouri Chapter hosted an event that benefited more than just its members. The event held at the Pageant on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, drew in several guests from outside the event industry to join the ISES members in "Lightening Life's Load With Laughter." The event drew more than 210 attendees. The evening kicked off with the Bottoms Up Blues Gang performing in the background while guests mingled during the pre-reception sponsored by The Pageant, Anheuser-Busch, and Major Brands Distributing. Then, internationally recognized humorist, motivator, speaker, and author, Kathleen Passanisi, took the stage for her fantastic topic discussion. Passanisi, being the recipient of the 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award in the field of therapeutic humor and an inductee into the Speakers' Hall of Fame in 2004, taught the record-breaking crowd how to use laughter to minimize stress not only in their professional lives, but their personal lives as well. She created a lighthearted atmosphere that allowed everyone in attendance to relax and take a new perspective on the obstacles that are faced everyday.
The evening also benefited our overseas troops serving in the military and their families. ISES teamed up with the American Red Cross by donating a portion of the proceeds to its Armed Forces Emergency Services Fund, which provides communication services, counseling services, and even financial services to the troops and families in their difficult and stressful times. At the end of the night, everyone felt a little more prepared to face the next day.
